Applying my knowledge to understand and help resolve societal issues is important and fulfilling to me. With my expertise on emotions and their influence on behaviour, I aim to contribute to the development of effective interventions, for example in tackling financial problems. Insight into the emotions and behaviour of people experiencing financial problems can inform organisations dealing with these people. Both creditors and support organizations can learn how to match their communication with the needs and capabilities of these people. The resulting contact could provide a first step towards a healthy financial situation.
If people have financial problems, I believe that by adopting a human-focused approach we can do more to guide them towards a healthy financial situation than by threatening them with sanctions.
