I am interested in the psychological processes that influence decisions. My focus lies in the psychological effects of having too few financial resources, known as the experience of financial scarcity. Financial scarcity has been shown to affect decision-making in various ways, sometimes with negative consequences on people’s financial situation. In my PhD project, I study how and when financial scarcity leads people to experience of a lack of control, which may lead them to avoid dealing with their finances.

What I like about my project on financial scarcity is that I can do fundamental research that is also societally relevant.
